Words and Music: Brian Robbins
Album: Banned in the State of Utah

Jimmy Jones was born the son of a Klansman.
But Jimmy Jones, he was different, different than the old man.
A childhood preacher, a dope dealer, a faith healer, and a race healer too.
Revival, religion, friend to the politician, and the mortician too.

And he prayed for equality.
And he talked about ending poverty
And he said "I'm gonna build a place for all too see."
"I will fulfill my destiny."

Jimmy Jones, with the aviator shades and the snake skin, lookin' like Elvis Christ
Jimmy Jones, with the hair slicked back and the neon gaze talkin' 'bout White Nights.
Cold war messiah, the preacher from Ukiah, wore a bible like a gun, for the apocalypse to come
And you woke from a narcotic daze and you turned to the sun, but there was nowhere to run.

And he prayed for equality.
And he talked about ending poverty
And he said, "I'm gonna build a place for all too see."
"I will fulfill my destiny."

In Jonestown
One dark day
Jonestown
There is no escape.
Jonestown
You better kneels down and prays
Jonestown
If you want another day.

Jimmy Jones packed up the flock and the Kool-Aid for paradise.
Jimmy Jones was a poor man's messiah another Jesus Christ.
He said, "I'll take you by the hand, we can live off the land," utopia, it seemed like a hippie agrarian dream.
Then the lights went out, and the babies cry and shout and the people started dropping' like flies on DDT, or cyanide.

In Jonestown
One dark day
Jonestown
There is no escape.
Jonestown
You better kneels down and prays
Jonestown
If you want another day.
Jonestown
You better run for the jungle.
Jonestown
you better hide.
Jonestown
If you get caught you pay double
Jonestown
If you make it alive.

Jonestown
Infanticide.
Jonestown
The preacher lied.
Jonestown
Genocide.

Jonestown
Cyanide.
